Why is Graphite Polystyrene Board Considered Superior to EPS Insulation Board?

First, graphite polystyrene board utilizes fewer organic raw materials—such as polystyrene—compared to standard EPS insulation board; consequently, it generates less environmental pollution. Graphite Polystyrene Insulation Board (abbreviated as SEPS board) is a novel type of polystyrene-based insulation material. It is produced by incorporating graphite into expandable polystyrene (EPS), thereby enhancing its flame-retardant and fire-resistant properties while maintaining its excellent thermal insulation performance. The promulgation of national standards for SEPS boards will strictly guarantee the thermal insulation and fire-retardant performance of this material. This ensures that it not only meets the requirements of the national "12th Five-Year Plan" for energy conservation but also complies with fire safety regulations for building exterior walls. Ultimately, this will drive the replacement of traditional EPS boards with highly flame-retardant SEPS boards, thereby facilitating a structural adjustment within the market for building insulation materials. Furthermore, due to its enhanced thermal insulation efficiency, the demand for organic raw materials—such as polystyrene—required for graphite polystyrene boards is expected to decline, thereby further reducing environmental pollution.

Second, graphite polystyrene board possesses a higher fire-resistance rating than standard EPS insulation board. Currently, organic materials account for over 70% of the insulation materials market; of these, polystyrene-based materials constitute 75%, with EPS boards being the most prevalent type within the polystyrene category. Previously, controversies regarding the fire safety of EPS insulation boards—sparked by incidents such as high-rise building fires in various regions—led consumers to question the reliability of ordinary EPS boards. The issuance of "Document No. 65" further restricted the application of EPS insulation boards. Although Document No. 65 has since been rescinded, market apprehensions persist; against this backdrop, the widespread promotion of highly flame-retardant graphite polystyrene boards will effectively alleviate these market concerns.
